Men - Do Not Get Too Carried Away With Fashion
Sunday, March 21st, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedGuys, don’t get carried away with fashion. Leave it to the girls. If that sounds sexist, then so be it, but the fact is, you’re not genetically programmed for style or taste - they are!
There may be one exception to this rule, but there’s only one. When it comes to watches, men seem to generally have good taste. Men really bond with their watches, just like women bond with shoes.
A watch does much more than tell the time. It tells the world a whole story about you. Let’s take a men’s sport watch, for example. If a guy is wearing a waterproof watch, that suggests he’s into water sports. Look closely and you can tell whether or not he’s really into water sports or is just a poser. If you know he’s not a millionaire but he’s wearing an expensive one, he’s a poser. No real surfer or sailor would wear an expensive watch in the water. It’s too risky.
A leather watch is a thing of beauty. Amazingly, most men seem to have an innate sense of which color and style of leather wristwatch suits them best. While the limited choices (black or brown band, silver or gold face) make their decision easier, they need to be given credit for, nine times out of ten at least, making the right decision.
Not so when it comes to shoes! Men are awful when it comes to choosing the appropriate footwear for the occasion. How could anyone think that wearing an old pair of leather brown boots would be a good idea for Sunday brunch at an elegant cafe? Do those men who do that think they’re impressing anybody with their machismo? They’re not - the things just look bad!
Remarkably, it is possible to make an even worse decision. Some men decide that since it’s Sunday, they have a right to wear their cheap flip-flops to Sunday brunch. How embarrassed their wives or girlfriends must be when they come walking into a nice restaurant with a man who is attracting attention to his ugly feet with his noisy sandals!
Let’s just skip the issue of shirts and pants altogether. Suffice it to say that if you just choose your clothes so that you’ll fit in at the office, you’ll be taking the safest route. You could be risking your career, your social life and even your family if you try to make an individual fashion statement.
Guys, you’re only on safe ground with your watch. Other than that, leave fashion to the gals.
